Cape Town - The sister of a Springbok rugby player, who was brutally gang-raped last week, has put together an ID kit of one of her assailants.
The suspect is thought to be in his late twenties, about 1.7m in height and slightly built.
"She only saw the third person who held her on the back seat before she was hit and lost consciousness," said police spokesperson, Captain Marie Louw.
The 20-year-old medical student, whose name was not being released, was abducted by three men on her way to classes at Tygerburg hospital last week.
She was forced into her car and taken to an empty house somewhere between Joostenbergvlakte and Klipheuwel - about 30km from campus - and repeatedly raped and assaulted. They used their fists, hitting her in the face and cut her arm with knives.
The woman escaped when the men went outside to investigate a noise, according to her statement given to police a day after the rape. Her keys were still in her car and she sped off to meet her parents in Stellenbosch, where she was hospitalised.
Police were investigating a case of rape and hijacking. Investigating officer, Inspector Riccardo McCree told News24 that he had visited the scene of the crime as well as surrounding areas with the ID kit.
"I got a few names but unfortunately none of them turned out to be the man," said McCree. Investigations were continuing, while the woman recovered at her family's farm. She received counselling but was still traumatised, according to McCree.
Anyone with information could call McCree on 021 592 7092.
