DNA fingers 'serial killer'
31/05/2008 14:30 - (SA)
Johannesburg - An alleged Limpopo serial killer has been positively linked to his victims by DNA samples, SABC news reported on Friday.
Police forensics experts from Pretoria told the Thohoyandou High Court that nail, blood and semen samples found on the victims could be traced to Malaotse Freddie Makhosi.
He allegedly targeted women and children between 2004 and 2006. Some of the victims had been strangled to death.
He was facing 26 charges, including rape, murder, attempted murder, robbery and housebreaking.
The state was relying on circumstantial evidence as none of the survivors could recognise him, having passed out during the attacks.
Of the 83 witnesses expected to give evidence, 18 had already taken the stand. Court authorities said some of them would not be called as the perpetrator had already confessed to some of the cases.
The case continues on August 7.
