Johannesburg - A 28-year-old man rushing home was caught doing 272km/h on the N3 south near Linksfield offramp, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday.

Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the man's speed was the highest recorded on Johannesburg roads.

He would appear in the Edenvale Magistrate's Court on Monday.

He speeding home in Bedfordview when he was arrested on Saturday night.

Minnaar said another 21 motorists were caught speeding on the N1 at the Olifanstfontein off ramp, they would appear in the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Monday.

They were all arrested on Saturday night.
