  • Johannesburg - Seven people were arrested for speeding and reckless driving on the N1 in Midrand, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday.

Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the motorists were caught during the early hours of Saturday morning at the Olifantsfontein offramp.

"The highest speed clocked was by a 51-year-old man in a Mercedes Kompressor at 233 kilometres per hour.

"A 51-year-old doctor was also arrested for speeding, at 213 kilometres per hour, and he was also drunk. He could not even stand," said Minnaar.

Among those arrested was a 31-year-old woman for driving at 200 kilometres per hour.

They were granted bail of R2500 and will appear in the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Monday, Minnaar said.
