Johannesburg - A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Hillbrow for the murder of his lover in December, said police on Sunday.

Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said the man was cornered at a tavern on Friday after being on the run for six months.

He was accused of strangling Thandiswa Sithole with a belt then hitting her on the head with brick at the shebeen he ran from his house.

"The motive for the murder is suspected jealously, aggravated by male customers at the shebeen," said Mavundla.
