Cullinan - Before dying in front of his wife and daughter, a man's last words were the name of his alleged killer.

Police spokesperson Johannes Jaftha said artist André Masset, 57, was shot dead about 23:00 on Saturday night on his smallholding outside Cullinan.

His alleged killer, a 28-year-old worker at a nearby farm, was arrested about two hours later.

Jaftha said Masset had been working in a house on the smallholding.

His wife, Lianne Cox, and their five-year-old daughter were watching a DVD in another house on the plot. The two houses were apparently close to each other.

    Shot in the jaw

Jaftha said: "We're not sure yet what happened, but the woman (Cox) said she heard a shot about 23:00. She looked out of the window, but didn't see anything.

"Masset stumbled into the house and told his wife the name of the possible suspect.

"He then died in front of his wife and daughter," said Jaftha.

Masset was shot in the jaw.

Jaftha said Masset had known the farm worker.
