Durban - About 300 people were left homeless after some 80 shacks went up in flames in Durban on Monday, city officials said.
Alfred Newman, the Divisional Commander for the eThekwini Fire Brigade, said that no one was hurt in the blaze at the informal settlement near Kennedy Road in Durban's Springfield area.
The cause of the blaze had not been confirmed, but it was believed that a paraffin stove may have been left unattended.

Attempts were being made to find alternative accommodation for the people.
