Johannesburg - A man was shot in the head after an argument on an Edenvale street, Johannesburg police said on Monday.

Captain Piet Nyakeni said Michael Mahlaku was in 10th Avenue in Edenvale on Sunday when he was confronted by another man along the road.

"They were both arguing. A security car that was passing by stopped and a security guard tried to sort out the matter. The man overpowered the security guard and took his gun.

"He then shot Mahlaku in the head," he said.

Mahlaku later died at Edenvale Hospital.

The motive for the murder is unknown, said Nyakeni.

The man was arrested and is expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder.
