Johannesburg - Three robbers were arrested after crashing a hijacked vehicle into a truck in a high-speed police chase in Douglasdale on Wednesday morning, Johannesburg police said.

Inspector Balan Muthan said the three men hijacked a white City Golf on the corner of Witkoppen and Main streets in Douglasdale, north west of Johannesburg, at around 05:00.

The two occupants of the car, a man and a woman, were forced out but not injured.

The Douglasdale robbery task team, driving in an unmarked vehicle, witnessed the crime and gave chase.

"The three men crashed into a truck and were arrested," said Muthan.

One of the robbers was injured and is in a stable condition in hospital under police guard.

No-one else was hurt.
