Cop fired 'for using f-word'
17/07/2008 09:39 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A senior policeman from Bloemfontein with 22 years' service has been fired for using the word "fuck" in front of his boss.
"If every single policeman who uses that word gets fired, we won't have any police left," Andre Gerber, lawyer for Superintendent Gary Wrensch, told Beeld newspaper.
Wrensch was dismissed on Wednesday afternoon after using the word while addressing clerks about problems with the register book.
The conversation took place in front of his immediate boss, Senior Superintendent Alfred Mokalake.
In the disciplinary hearing, the police's lawyer requested that he be slapped with a fine of between R100 and R200.
But Senior Superintendent Phule Solo decided to dismiss him.
Wrensch is appealing the decision.
