Cape Town - Six alleged armed robbers were arrested in Cape Town after a high speed chase along the N1 highway on Thursday, Western Cape police said.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andre Traut said the six apparently robbed a 36 year-old woman of a briefcase containing cash in Table View on Thursday morning.
"The victim had just made a cash withdrawal at a nearby bank, when she was confronted."
The men fled the scene in a silver Opel Corsa and then stopped at the Flamingo Square shopping centre where they abandoned the vehicle.
The alleged robbers then fled in a black minibus, with two other people who appeared to have been waiting for them.
Security officer alerted police
A security officer who saw the vehicle swap then contacted the police. The minibus was spotted on the N7 freeway.
"After a high speed pursuit the vehicle was forced from the road by Saps on the N1 close to the Monte Vista turn off."
The suspects, ranging in age from their late twenties and early thirties, were arrested on charges of armed robbery and the possession of illegal firearms.
Police confiscated two illegal firearms and also retrieved the stolen briefcase.
It was also established that the abandoned Corsa had been stolen in May this year.
