'Somebody ignited the match'

Pretoria - An independent investigation committee has been established to look into the Kruger Park flats fire that led to the death of five people, a council spokesperson said on Thursday.
"The team headed by University of Pretoria Professor David Mosoma will look into the cause of the tragic fire that engulfed Kruger Park," city spokesperson Console Tleane told reporters at a briefing.
The city came to this decision late on Wednesday.
The committee would also look at the processes of effecting eviction orders and whether there was sufficient communication with tenants about this.
The fire was allegedly started by residents of the Kruger Park flats after Red Ants security guards began evicting their neighbours in the Schubart Park block on Tuesday.
On the question of whether the municipality was responsible for the events at flats, Tleane said that somebody had started the fire and that this was not the responsibility of the city.
"There is somebody who ignited the match, clearly it is not the city," he said.
It was found that both buildings were unsafe.
