25/07/2008 12:08 - (SA)
Durban - A Durban woman suffered severe burns when her kitchen caught alight on Friday morning, the eThekwini Fire Department said.
The incident took place on Ridge Road at 04:00, the Fire Department's divisional commander Dennis Govender said.
"When we arrived at the scene we were told that the woman was seriously burnt and taken to hospital by her husband."
Govender said the woman had gone into the kitchen where a turpentine bottle was lying on the table, as house renovations were underway.
"We suspect she lit a cigarette and at the same time dropped the turpentine bottle and caught alight."
The fire was confined to the kitchen and put out. No one else was injured. The woman was admitted into Entabeni Hospital. Her current condition was unknown.
