Johannesburg - Temporary road diversions have been implemented along Oxford Road in line with the Gautrain's tunnelling progress and will be in place until September, the Bombela Concession Company said on Friday.
The construction company said the diversions will be in three phases, affecting both the northbound and southbound lanes and will be in place until tunnelling is completed on Oxford Road.
Bombela said phase one was currently in place between North Avenue and 8th Avenue.
Motorists travelling northbound, from the Johannesburg CBD towards Rosebank are using the North Avenue, Main Avenue and 8th Avenue diversions to rejoin Oxford Road.
Motorists travelling southbound are currently using the 8th Avenue, Main Avenue, and North Avenue diversions to rejoin Oxford Road.
That phase should end by early August.
Phase two would be implemented once phase one ends, and would affect the portion of Oxford Road between 8th Avenue and Riviera Road.
Northbound traffic will use 4th Avenue, through Main Avenue and 8th Avenue to rejoin Oxford Road. Motorists travelling towards the Johannesburg CBD will use 8th Avenue, Main Avenue, go through to 4th Avenue, to rejoin Oxford Road."
Phase two would last for three days.
Phase three would be implemented in the portion of Oxford Road between North Avenue and Riviera Road when phase two ends.
Northbound traffic will use Riviera Road, 4th Avenue, and North Avenue to rejoin Oxford Road.
Southbound traffic towards the Johannesburg CBD will travel through North Avenue, 4th Avenue, and into Riviera Road to rejoin Oxford Road.
Bombela advises motorists travelling through Rosebank to other destinations to use the M1 north and South or Jan Smuts Avenue as alternative routes to avoid congestion.
