Psychopathic rapist gets life x2

2008-08-19 21:24

Pretoria - A Pretoria High Court judge on Tuesday imposed two life sentences on a "dangerous" serial rapist, saying the court would forsake its duty if it did not give recognition to the interests of women and children.

Acting Judge Piet Ebersohn sentenced 34-year-old Pieter Olivier of Oukasie in Gauteng to two life terms for twice raping a frail seven-year-old girl after luring her away from her sickly mother's home with promises of buying her a cooldrink.

The little girl, who was in such excruciating pain that she could not walk or sit, only managed to escape when he fell asleep after raping her for a second time.

Women's month

Olivier was also sentenced to another 33 years imprisonment for kidnapping the child and raping and stealing money from two other young women.

One of his victims, a 19-year-old, was raped twice after Olivier lured her to a deserted place with promises of showing her where she could find a taxi.

The judge said it was by chance that the case was finalised in women's month, where the focus fell on the prevention of violence against women and children.

He said Olivier had slyly lured his victims to their fate and none of them, especially the seven-year-old girl, had been able to protect themselves against his violent attacks and threats.

The Judge said it was clear that all of Olivier's victims had been traumatised by the horror of their experience.

Sub-normal intelligence

One victim, who told the court she feared he was going to kill her, cried so much that she could not testify in open court and she had to be given time to compose herself.

Psychologists told the court Olivier had sub-normal intelligence and classified him as a psychopath and serial rapist who could not be rehabilitated and was a danger to women and children.

Apart from the tuberculosis he contracted in jail, Olivier also found out that he was HIV-positive. None of his victims had, however, tested positively for HIV and there was no indication that Olivier had contracted the virus before or after the 2004 incidents.

Judge Ebersohn said he had no hesitation to find that Olivier should be removed from society.
