Johannesburg - A 24-year-old robber was shot dead while trying to break into a funeral parlour in Lebaleng in the North West, police said on Thursday.
"The undertaker caught the man breaking though the window on Wednesday night and fired a warning shot. However, the man started running and the 42-year-old undertaker shot him from behind," said Inspector Wilnarie van der Merwe.
He died at the scene. A bag containing money and CDs was found lying next to him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had been released on bail on Tuesday, after being charged for possession of stolen property, said Van der Merwe.
The undertaker was arrested for the murder, she said.
