Cape Town - A Translux bus burst into flames in Cape Town on Monday, just metres from its end destination.
It's suspected that the engine exploded.
The passengers managed to escape the bus before it burst into flames on the corner of Hertzog Boulevard and Heerengracht.
Onlookers who'd flocked to the scene made a hasty retreat when the bus's windows started exploding as a result of the heat.
One of the passengers, Barbara Ridgen, said they'd come from Johannesburg.
She had been sitting on the top level of the bus when the vehicle was rocked by the explosion.
"We all got a huge fright. We were told to evacuate the bus immediately. We grabbed suitcases and fled the bus. Seconds later it burst into flames."
