Johannesburg - Thirty four drunken drivers were arrested in the North West province over the last 24 hours, the provincial transport department said on Thursday.
North West Department of Transport, Roads and Community spokesperson Mandla Mathebula said the motorists were caught mainly at road blocks that were set up across the province from New Year's Eve until New Year's Day.
Mathebula said a taxi operator was also arrested after he tried to bribe a traffic officer in Rustenburg.
"The taxi operator was trying to give a traffic officer R60 after the traffic officer declared his minibus taxi unroadworthy."
All those arrested will appear in court on Friday.
Mathebula said traffic safety operations would continue over the weekend.
