Johannesburg - Police foiled the hijacking of a tobacco truck on Wednesday and arrested two men, Gauteng police said.
Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said the men were arrested in Florida before the truck could be hijacked.
"A tobacco truck was being followed by the suspects on the N1 between Maraisburg Road and Gordon Road off-ramp.
"Police received information that a hijacking was imminent and members of the dog unit and flying squad with the aid of a police helicopter interrupted the men," he said.
Two unlicensed firearms, a pistol and a revolver, five cellphones and a suspected stolen vehicle were recovered.
Dlamini said the two men were being questioned about links to other violent crimes.
They are expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and a suspected stolen vehicle.
