Pretoria - A 34-year-old man was shot in the stomach by three armed robbers on his smallholding near Bronkhorstspruit, and then drove himself to hospital after they fled.
The robbers shot the man in front of his wife and three-year-old daughter. They then went through his home with him and demanded laptops, weapons, money and cellphones.
Four days after the attack, the man says he is not angry at anybody, but is too scared to reveal his name.
"I'm scared they'll see in the newspaper that I'm not dead and come back," he said from his hospital bed.
Kicked wife in the ribs
His wife, 34, said they woke up at about 03:00 on Saturday morning when they heard two shots in their bedroom. Their three-year-old daughter was in bed with them.
"Three men moved around in our room," the woman, a teacher in Bronkhorstspruit, said.
"My husband jumped up, stormed at them and yelled at them. They fled, but in the middle of the passage one turned around and shot my husband."
Their room was on one end of the passage way and the front door, which had been broken down for access to the house, was on the other end.
The robbers then went back to the main bedroom where they picked up the man and told him to show them where the money, weapons and laptops were.
The couple's 12-year-old daughter woke up and hid behind her mother's back. The men went to her room, pulled her ears and asked where her laptop was.
"I told him she was a child and that he must leave her alone. He then started pulling at my pyjamas."
The robber kicked the woman in the ribs, breaking one and cracking another.
The men took the man's suit, which he wore to church, from the cupboard and fled with two cellphones. The only money they took was the money for church, which was left in the suit.
