Johannesburg - A 58-year-old man was shot and killed at his home in Florida Park, Roodepoort, Netcare 911 said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Mark Stokoe said the man was sitting in the garden outside his house with his wife enjoying a glass of wine on Wednesday night.

"About three or four men suddenly appeared. He confronted them and he was shot at close range," said Stokoe.

He was shot in the chest and leg while his wife ran towards the house for safety.

"He died at the scene," said Stokoe.

Nothing was stolen from the house.
