22/01/2007 19:07 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The African National Congress called on Monday on all South Africans to take part in the fight against crime.
Spokesperson Smuts Ngonyama said: "Let us not become spectators when police are doing their work. We call for a full participation of every person."
He was briefing the media on resolutions taken by the ANC national executive council's lekgotla at the weekend.
Also discussed were fighting poverty, the implementation of the accelerated share growth initiative, safety, improvement of government and administrations, and South Africa's contribution in the continent and the world.
Poverty alleviation
Ngonyama said: "The lekgotla specifically identified the establishment of a broad front for development as a primary task of the movement in the year ahead.
"The broad front will seek to harness the energies and efforts of a broad range of groupings and sectors behind a minimum programme of poverty alleviation and social development."
