SA politicians don't 'click'
Obama did. But experts say local political parties don't understand the value of a techno-savvy campaign.
DA: We didn't copy Obama
Some say the DA's new logo bears a striking resemblance to a logo we've seen before.

Cape Town - "People who are unhappy about the new South Africa should ask themselves how South Africa would have fared if we had not undertaken the far-reaching changes (of February 2, 1990)."

This is the view of former president FW de Klerk, reflecting on his historic address to parliament 17 years ago, on February 2 1990.

Speaking from Singapore, De Klerk said that in his opinion South Africa would have been in a state of siege.

"I'll be thinking back on that historic day. It was important not only for me, but for the whole of South Africa."

He recalls how he turned to his former wife Marike as they walked into parliament and said: "South Africa will never be the same again."

With the benefit of hindsight, he would do it all again.

"If we had to draw up a balance sheet, I'm sure the positives would outweigh the negatives."

    - Beeld

- Johan - Johan Van Litsenborg

I wonder if the families of all the poeple who have been murdered on farms, shot dead over a R2000 cell phone, or highjacked feel the same? All he did was bring into power a goverment who is nowhere near capable of running a growing country and whos only concern is lining their own pockets. - screamer

All FW did was carry on with a process already begun by PW Botha, not that this received much publicity. Why did FW stage a coup against PW? In my opinion to ensure that he got the chance to be president before the regime change happened. FW, look around SA, at the poverty and the crime and the inadequate governance structures. A lot of the blame is yours. - Jim

Well nothing's really changed has it?! We've only replaced one discriminatoty regime with another!Whereas the apartheid regime was swift and direct(AND TOTALLY WRONG!), the new South African regime is slow suffication (for the white minority anyway!!!) - Vatos Locos
