Zille for Afrikaans-only school
17/11/2007 19:58 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance (DA) was backing Hoërskool Ermelo in its battle to remain an Afrikaans-only school, the SABC reported on Saturday.
The broadcaster reported that DA leader Helen Zille made this clear at a public meeting in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, in the same area as Ermelo.
Zille said the high school's constitutional rights had been violated by last month's Pretoria High Court ruling that it become a dual medium institution.
She told the public meeting that Hoërskool Ermelo had a constitutional right to teach in a language of its choice.
Zille's vowed that her party would pursue the matter.
The school intends to appeal against the High Court ruling.
