Johannesburg - ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma is now officially running for the presidency of the party, SABC news said on Sunday.

"He has accepted his nomination for the position by signing the nomination form."

The SABC said the form was apparently faxed to London where Zuma is on a private visit.

Last week, ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma was nominated for the presidency by five of the party's provincial structures, the ANC Youth League and the ANC Women's Leagues.

President Thabo Mbeki was nominated to serve a third term by four of the ANC's provincial structures. Mbeki has said he will not withdraw his nomination.
