Well done Zuma 18/12/2007 22:49
The winning of Jacob Zuma showed that democracy can work in South Africa. As a South African living in the USA I was concerned with Thabo Mbeki becoming the president of the ANC. We really need to rotate this presidency to all the tribes that live in South Africa. I mean this is the only way to prevent civil war that has troubled Africa so much. I hope Zuma will have his own style to lead South Africa to a greener pasture where crime and corruption won't be the worry for all South Africans. - Eddy Banda |

Congratulation South Africa!! 19/12/2007 00:33
I would like to congratulate South Africa for saving their democracy from Mbeki's facism!! Leaders like Mbeki, who believes there's no one who can feel their shoes in the ANC, should feel ashamed of themselves. I think Mr Mbeki has embarassed himself in front of the world. We hope Mr Zuma will bring some changes, despite all the descreditation he has and still suffering. Tata uTutu, we hope you'll start praying for Zuma & stop condemning him. - bongani |

Zuma 19/12/2007 01:11
Yes, I'm sure everything will change for the better now. Less crime and corruption, a measured and sensible approach against the spreading of Aids, a tougher stance on abuse against women, economic growth and a marked drop in unemployment. And to top that all, Bafana Bafana is going to win the World Cup in 2010! (Have I mentioned that pigs can fly?) - Daniel |

Long live democracy, constitution 19/12/2007 01:17
Thanks for defending our constitution and ensuring that democracy prevails in SA by voting J Zuma.Democratically elected African leaders still fail to understand that they are the ones responsible for the very civil war ravaging the continent by refucing to go when it is time to. We allow Mbeki for a third term then soon he will be in his 20th term as a dictator. Of course, one part of SA will have been taken over by rebels because not everyone is going to tolerate a situation like that. - Tsie |

Zuma - Get out! 19/12/2007 02:17
It is sad that an illiterate accused will become the ruler. But then again, this would not be the first time. It is the first time that I fear for the future of SA. My advise - get out while you can still get something for your rand.
The good times are over and I am sad.

Halala Zulu boy! 19/12/2007 02:37
Mbeki divided the ANC. Mbeki's and cronies used the state funds as their personal bank accounts. The ANC, under Mbeki leadership, has become a den of thieves, rapists, womenisers, manupilators, cheats, liars, etc. If you are corrupt and he likes you that you are safe. He did not want Jacob Zuma as president (JZ was forced to issue a media statement saying he had no presidential ambitions!)Basically, while Thabo may look like he has managed this well, he has done a lot of harm inside the ANC! - Non-Zulu |
|

A DISGRACE! 19/12/2007 03:26
I am a South African living in London and was preparing to come back to my homeland-but after hearing the news that Zuma will be the next president, I will stay in the UK. What have become of my motherland who have decided on a rapist and fraudster as their next president. Politicians are people we should be able to look up to. If they make mistakes they should go, they are not ordinary people. In the UK if a politician makes a mistake he will pay the price and in SA they get promoted. - Gordon Thompson |

- Yeah there is fire alright, and it started along time ago. It's been out of control for the past 12 years.

ZUMA another Mugabe 19/12/2007 05:36
The arrogant & belligerent way in which he and his supporters behave reminds me so much of Mugabe. When Zuma is in his 80's, the constitution is ignored & he has destroyed SA like Mugabe has done to Zimbabwe, then let's hear what his supporters have to say. - Roland Gemmell |

Going forward 19/12/2007 05:50
Its imperative that we not only understand the cause and effect of what happend yesterday. However, as much as i agree that we should let Mbeki go, i would want ask cadres/ not members of the ANC(through the eye of a....), is that the best we can do relative to the values, traditions and principles of the ANC? - Cadre |

MBEKI MUST GO!!!!! 19/12/2007 06:10
Mbeki must go and never come back. He has mismanaged this country in so many ways. His warped way of thinking and constant state of denial is not going to be missed. His stance of major issues like crime, Zimbabawe and AIDS was so typical of a AFrican leader. He surrounded himself with useless and corrupt people and he protected them at every point. SA is going to go through some turbelent changes but will come out stronger and I have alot of confidence in Zuma.
- MrPapari |

Dear Eddy 19/12/2007 06:34
I quote: "Zuma will have his own style to lead South Africa to a greener pasture where crime and corruption won't be the worry for all South Africans" How can you say that Zuma will lead SA to be without crime and corruption if the man himself is at the forefront of several court battles charged with rape and corruption. He might be a better and stronger leader but will it be for the better of the people if he leads by example, so far his example is a bit shaky to say the least? - Hanno |

The economic progress has been stolen by the Communists 19/12/2007 06:35
The two men to blame is Mbeki and Zuma. The intellectuals of the ANC has been replaced by people that can barely do mathematics.
Good luck mr. Zuma. Good luck in building those airplanes, satellites, dams, cars, televisions, cell phones, computers, highways... I hope you and company understand enough to balance budgets, do projections of population growth, public services, maintenance.
And I'm also not surprised that your votes were all polarized - Democracy at work or an ideological shift? - Nasdaq7 |

I wish to congratulate Zuma for his victory in the leadrship race. My prayer is that he also should attain victory in the corruption charges that are imminent. Live- up to Promises(Mixed feelings) 19/12/2007 06:55
Welldone JZ.I guess I am caught between a ROCK(Mbeki)& a HARD place(Zuma). The risk of a dictatorship has been avoided but welcome the reality of corruption and banana state.
The rest of Zuma's team seems to be OK ,but not him.The Shaik brothers should be celebrating and a lot of business guys are eagerly awaiting for return favours as they bailed him out during his unemployment period.
I hope Kgalema,Gwede,Phosa will keep him under control.Zuma's problem is that he TOO OPEN to everyone. - Martin |

Critics won't stop JZ 19/12/2007 07:12
May the critics say whatever they think? Be careful it's a criminal offence to call someone a rapist or a fraudster if the court of law found him otherwise. ANC is now back to it's people. One can't be a president for life, unless personal ambitions couple with tyrrany are involved. Sorry Bheki supporters, it's politics at it's best or just call an ANC Derby!! JZ unite ANC towards 2012!!! - Mr Sly |

The beginning of the end 19/12/2007 07:23
Once again "the people" have shown their true ignorance by electing someone with absolutely no vision or leadership skills. Weren't these the same people that elected Mbeki a few years back? Look where that brought us. Now they're the same ones boo'ing him out. Its a vicious cycle of horrible decisions. How long will it continue? - Ash |

Congradulations Zuma 19/12/2007 07:24
Others are worried that a fraudster & Rapist won the elections, but that is not fair, believe you me all of them they have their own scandal, its just the matter of time before those scandals can prevail. So I think it is fair that we choose Zuma while we knew very about him. So I see this as a real democracy.... shame on you South African who are not going to come back to your country. But some of us are very happy. ANC was dominated by one tribe as if they own the country. we r tired of that - TK |

Goodbye Republic South Africa, you gave it a good run old mate! Shall I get my red t-shirt out so long to fit in and score some brownie points?

Comrade Zuma you rock. 19/12/2007 07:37
The winds of change have arrived. As for those who feel the country is going down the drain... by all means leave. How come people think believe that a person without a masters degree cannot not really think and do carry out the people's mandate? Pointing at the self is difficult isn't it? Comrade Kgaleme said it is good to know what you do not know. That to me means Comrade Zuma does hence the people he has surrounded himself with. Congrats and Viva ANC Viva!!!!!! - Mois |

Acceptance and Congratulations. 19/12/2007 07:38
Firstly i would like to congratulate JZ for the victory of being the President of the ANC. My personal adivce to the honourable Mr.JZ is not to settle score with comrades who were against him he must bring unity to the tarnished image of the organisation. Let the country unite together and the new top six should learn from the mistakes of the previous leaders and build a better future for the country.
Well done to the people who voted and showed that there was a need for a change. - Morope |

Labor and communist 19/12/2007 07:40
ANC delegate became stupid and handed our party to communist, how in hell do you give SACP chairperson to be the custodian of ANC, this is stupid and in our history never happened. People did vote with anger than constructively. Congradulation to Zuma, i did not want Mbeki. - Gee |

Zuma a disgrace to the country 19/12/2007 07:42
Though i do not favour both Thabo and Jacob, but i think zuma is going to plunge this country into oblivion. He might cause the ANC not to conquer in 2009 giving a chance to ID, NDPP and DA. - Abe |

Trouble... 19/12/2007 07:42
This country is entering a new era, an era where currupt politicians become wealthier, and the man on the street remains in poverty. The ANC will not deliver, and in specific Jacob Zuma. What a terrible choice for "our" new president, elected by 5 000 ANC delegates. What a joke!!! Time for the educated whites to leave SA. - Clyde |

Ozza - You're an Idiot 19/12/2007 07:44
You were right about one thing, now the fire has started, the sh*t has hit the fan, and SA needs to brace itself for a downward spiral deeper into its already 3rd world status. Things are going to go horribly wrong here for a long time before they come right, its been proven time and again (Zuum Zuum Rhodesia, Hello Zimbabawe?) The suffering starts now, and you thought things would get better? We are simply all going to be brought down to the same level, but then thats what communism is all about - G |

HIV/Aids Policy 19/12/2007 07:49
I would love to see what Zuma's HIV & Aids policy is going to be. Are we going to see portable showers along the streets of SA. How irresponsible of the ANC dlegates to vote in a fraudster. I guess you have to be Indian to be convicted for Fraud. - CONCERNED |

We need to pray 19/12/2007 07:50
I can't say anything but we all have to pray for the next president of this country, He is a human being and everybody has got mistakes. I mean we don't have to rejoice and forget about tomorrow. I think South Africa needs people who are going to pray stronger for this new leadership. I support all of them, I mean Mbeki and Zuma. Im glad about these results but South African it's high time now to pray for our country and its leaders. Also my suggestion Zuma must learn to listen ton people. - Zozo |

Msholozi is the man! 19/12/2007 07:55
I am totally agree with comrades who elected Zuma to be our next president of the ANC. This has proved that the people of South Africa has faith in this gentleman to lead SA to the next level of our democracy.
All the rumours about Msholozi was just a strategy to unsettle him, but they were not successful in that regard. SM - Generations |

ZUMA GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY!!!! 19/12/2007 07:55
The ANC has spoken and it is hoped that the country will speak in 2009 when the ANC with ZUMA as leader will not enjoy the overwhleming support they have enjoyed in Parliamnet in past. A one party state with such majority is not good for the country. I hope this bad decison will trim the support of the ANC in 2009. - Raymond |

RISE TO THE OCCASION 19/12/2007 08:04
The people have spoken; democracy is the winner not individuals. We need to honour Thabo for the remarkable work he has done for this nation and Africa, though change was inevitable. South Africans have learned a lot out of this process, democratic principles emerged to prove beyond reasonable doubts that leadership is about people. This is our democracy , that we need to uphold and nourish for the betterment of our nation ? Phambili ngo Msholozi ? you?ve got your machine ? the people has entrusted you with the powers to lead them with dignity , pride , accountability , respect , responsibility and above all to make SA the best country to leave in . You have our support, not because of ethnicity but because of the democratic principles of which we hold so dearly to enhance our young democracy.

The best we can hope for now .... 19/12/2007 08:05

Although I congratulate Zuma for winning outright, I also take my hat off to Mr. Mbeki the man that has steered SA to the very respectable level it is right now-politically, economically, socially and otherwise.Mr Mbeki it is now time to relax leave active politics. You have done so much for our country and ANC.Call for an early election if it needs be and hand over power for peace's sake.We don't wanna see you undermined any further than the Polokwane misery of being booed by childern. - Badi |

What a joke! 19/12/2007 08:15
What a joke, Jacob Zuma the president of SA? Well atleast our policy to fight HIV/AIDS will no longer include garlic and potatoes but rather showers! My congratulations go to all the illiterate fools that voted JZ into presidency. You have sealed SA's coffin! In a few years we will be another Zimbabwe. Yes the people have spoken but maybe we should be questioning the calibre of those people and whether they are really fit to decide on the presidency of SA. Sad day for SA indeed! - Anonymous |

Jacob Zuma 19/12/2007 08:16
What kind of message is being sent out to the rest of the World? It's fine to be corrupt, be acquitted of rape, wait for the courts to decide on corruption charges, try & prevent the normal path of justice! My lord, the list is endless & still stand the chance of being elected President? This is not good & must say that there are people grasping at straws. Can't we have a statesman like Nelson Mandela again? Where is he? Save us from this monstrosity! Our constitution stinks!! - John Doe 2 |

The ANC will rule, not JZ 19/12/2007 08:17
Thanks to Mbeki,we have become used to individual rule. In Zuma, the ANC has a leader that will carry out their (ANC) decisions and the people's needs. If he fails, then he,just like Mbeki, will be democratically voted out. I love democracy! - Athi |
