'Kangaroo justice against Zuma'
20/12/2007 21:40 - (SA)
Polokwane - The National Prosecuting Authority was pursuing kangaroo justice against Jacob Zuma, the Young Communist League said on Thursday.
"The pronouncement made by the NPA today is a continuation of the abuse of its power by those who have been trying to prevent him from assuming the presidential position," league chairperson David Masondo told reporters at the ANC conference in Polokwane.
Earlier on Thursday, NPA acting head Mokotedi Mpshe told a radio station that the Scorpions' corruption investigation against Zuma was complete, and that he had the "impression" that charges would be filed soon.
Masondo said the league did not believe Zuma would get fair treatment in what would be a political trial.
"The timing [of Thursday's pronouncement] is also odd given the fact that the ANC conference is still in session, and can only be meant to stir tempers and provoke delegates."
