ANC NEC meet under way
07/01/2008 13:42 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The first meeting of the ANC's newly elected National Executive Committee got under way in Esselen Park, Johannesburg on Monday morning.
A handful of journalists and two cameramen were camped outside the entrance after security guards prevented them from entering the grounds.
A convoy of black BMWs, with blue lights flashing thought to be carrying the newly elected ANC President Jacob Zuma, arrived shortly after 10:00.
Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, former National Intelligence Agency (NIA) director-general Billy Masetlha and Mpumalanga premier Thabang Makwetla were among the party heavyweights spotted driving in.
Security guards were left red-faced after letting in a newspaper photographer on his motorbike after he told them he had come for the conference.
He made it through the metal detectors and all the way to the main hall before guards realised who he was and escorted him out.
