Mbeki's absence at ANC 'right'
13/01/2008 10:04 - (SA)
Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki is "100% correct" when he does not attend meetings where ANC President Jacob Zuma is present, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa said on Sunday.
He was referring to last week's NEC meeting and the ANC's birthday celebrations at Atteridgeville on Saturday.
"Since the indictment was served on Jacob Zuma in December by the Scorpions, it meant that protocol had to change - it was the state that laid charges against Zuma and Mbeki represents the state," said Holomisa.
"There is nowhere in the world where a person who is facing serious charges would be given a platform to address a head of state."
Mbeki's office as head of state must be respected - even if there are differences, the United Democratic Movement's Holomisa said.
Zuma should perhaps take leave so that the government can run smoothly ... what is presently happening is humiliating the country, Holomisa said.
"We are not a Banana Republic and we are not guided by jungle administration."
