Saddest day in crime fighting 12/02/2008 17:00
The day the Scorpions are disbanded, will be the saddest day in terms of the fight against crime and corruption in SA! Why not strength the current entities instead of staritng from scratch? Its a pity we have no opposition parties in this country!! Sad indeed - Thabo |

Scorpions 12/02/2008 17:01
YEAH RIGHT!!! the scorpions are working well and doing a awesome job as far as reports go so WHY mess with it. If it's not broke then no need to fix it or is there something to hide!! - Mike |

Lies, all lies .... 12/02/2008 17:15
So our president misled us AGAIN in his state of the nation speech. Why didn't he just say he was capitulating to the NEC and that the Scorpions were going to be disbanded. At least that would have been more honest. Well, for many of our few remaining skills that were hovering on the brink of emigating, this will surely tip the balance. - MikeC |

Good Bye Constitution Hallo Fascism 12/02/2008 17:20

High moral ground? 12/02/2008 17:29
It is interesting to note that the ANC now occupies "the high moral ground" when seen in light of their election of an alledged rapist and faudster as their new leader! When will South Africans wake up and realize that unless we implement urgent action against the ANC, we will soon answer to a man who has all the makings of a dictator. - Casper |

Right... 12/02/2008 17:30
So the very successful Scorpions are finally under the "single command and control point" of the very same corrupt criminals (ie Selebi et al) they were investigating in the first place. I can see how that would be a "holistic approach" to "change for the better" the strategies "...in the fight against **ALL** crime...". We're in trouble!!! - Fuming |

Poor Madiba 12/02/2008 17:30
Is this what Madiba spent 27 years in jail for? So that this bunch of self absorbed criminals could ruin this country? Sad Indeed.. Hello UK.. here we come by the 1000. - justin |

Mbeki 12/02/2008 17:35
Ok, Mbeki misused the Scorpions as him own personal intrument to try and remove Zuma. However, do not take away from them the 2000 convictions that they achieved ! They have done some good work. The police still need to re-instate the internal corruption unit Selebi removed, for obvious resons ! - Mbeki |

Does the ANC think we stupid? 12/02/2008 17:36
We all know why the NEC wants the scorpions out. Why not just admit to it, instead they just keep on with their lies to us. Do they think we stupid. The ANC's NEC is under thread from the scorpions, cause half of them are being investigated by the scorpions. The other half were clever enough to hide their tracks. Its a pitty that these are the people we trusted to vote into goverment 15 years ago. Very sad indeed. ANC! you have lost my vote. - Bongi |

Scorpions 12/02/2008 17:39
What did you expect, when they were fixated on tagging every black person as corrupt and useless. I dare say they should mobilise their contacts in the demonic press to rescue. This is lesson to those institutions that constitute themselves into opposition to black leadership. I won't miss their extinction. In fact their hollywood style turned me off a long time ago. - Amen |

South Africa 12/02/2008 17:46
Living in South Africa is similar to what the Jews went through in Nazi Germany, but on a smaller scale. People love the country, but it is being run into the ground by some 'manager' who are falsy parading or hiding behind an ANC banner they have stolen from some people that actually had good intentions, like poverty alleviation ! - SA |

About Time 12/02/2008 17:46
Scorpions became a law unto themselves, they investigated, arrested, and prosecuted suspect/s before even going to court via the media of course. They also allowed themselves to be used by different factions within the ANC to discredit one another.Jackie Selebi is one case in point whereas the President was quick off the mark when it came to Zuma. Yes it is a sad day but let us look on the bright side a better and improved unit will be formed and they dare not fail us. - dumiso |

Where is the sissy now 12/02/2008 17:47
Where are the comments from the guy that said parents were sissies to leave the country in order to keep their families safe? Who is going to watch your back now? You are either blind or have your head so far in the sand you cant see whats going around you - Porcupine |

Why? 12/02/2008 17:49
Leaving my country of South Africa for the UK last year tore my soul apart. But the ANC continues to make bringing my skills home less and less of an option.
I miss you all, but I won't be back as long as the country is in the hands of dictatorship and corruption.
What a sad, sad waste. - Won't look back |

They know what they are doing!!! 12/02/2008 17:50

Police 12/02/2008 17:50
The police are doing such a bad job of reducing crime, and the chief is best friends with the leading mobster in the country. It does not make sense to do away with the scorpions at this point. The ANC is once again making a big mistake, like they did with Eskom ! - Police |

Lies... 12/02/2008 17:54
Once again the anc think they can pull the wool over our eyes. How stupid do they think we are? Disband the scorpions? It's pathetic! They are covering up. As simple as that. No wonder we are loosing skilled people to other countries by the 1000's. - NO JUSTICE |

ANC abuse of power... 12/02/2008 17:54
The ANC have now proven that they have no interest in fighting crime. We already know about the sorry track record of the SAPS("no arrests have been made...")The Scorpions were genuine independent crime fighters, but appear to have nailed too many ANC brothers. We all know what happens when you combine mud and ice cream... - Brenton |

The inmates have voted to disband the only effective crime fighting unit in the country. 12/02/2008 18:10
South Africa - the Criminal State. The inmates have voted to disband the only effective crime fighting unit in the country. With a straight face they are telling us that they are going to incorporate the Scorpions into the police to improve the government?s crime fighting ability. Do they think we are stupid? What a sick joke. Moral high ground? This government is an abomination by any standard. Be prepared to see corruption in high places on a scale unimaginable. - JohnDoe |

Scorpions 12/02/2008 18:11
Scorpions should have stuck to investigating criminals and not get involved in political agendas. They were arrogant and thought they could cherry pick the publicity garnering cases. Former apartheid henchmen cannot be trusted. Those who want to emigrate must do so. At least in the UK you won't be special. Its full of white people. You will have to compete against them not Bantu educated blacks. Good luck! - Linda |

Sad 12/02/2008 18:15

Lies, more damn lies........ 12/02/2008 18:23
How can any person display any respect for so-called leaders that are just continuously trying their utmost best to mislead us. Another very good reason to decide in favour of also leaving like so many other "knowledge workers" have done. When will the politicians start to understand that some people do not pay any attention to lies any longer .... - Concerned South African |

Watch SA's standing and credibility go down the tubes. No organised crime fighters=No FDI=No jobs 12/02/2008 18:25
Mbeki NEVER had credibility, the reason the NEC called for the Scorpions to be disbanded is that he used them for his own political gain, but failed to achieve his objective. The man doesn't care what happens next, he is so bitter he wants SA to go the Zim route. He said it himself theres no Mbeki legacy, every president has a legacy, his' is in shambles he prefers to say he's got none. Just wondering what his plans are for the future, emigrate to England where his heart has always been. - Vivi |

Seriously now... 12/02/2008 18:25
How stupid does the ANC think we are? Do they really think people will agree with them that this is in the best interest of the country!! I'm sorry, the ANC isn't fit for purpose, please ANC supporters, vote for someone else in '09, just to send them a message that they can't do anything they want and assume people will just suck it up. Disgusted... - Jon |

Prepare yourselves for living in a totally inefficient and corrupt state 12/02/2008 18:25
Mbeki has now sunk to an all-time low. Corruption is going to be unofficial government policy, and the way that business gets done in SA. Prepare yourselves for living in the Nigeria of the south. The "business unusual" actions (like using military medical corps somewhere in the north of the country, and "securing coal supply" for Eskom) are an indictment of the ANC government. Why weren't the problems addressed years ago? Answer: nepotism and cronyism. Expect that to be policy too. - MikeC |

How stupid can you get! 12/02/2008 18:26
One day after the President of South Africa gives his state of the nation address and said that the Scorpions must be kept as a Unit, his minister of Safety and Security(of which there is none in South Africa) Nqakula disbands them. What a wonderful message the ANC have just send the world? The only effecient, working crime fighting unit in the country gets shut down because they are actually good at what they do. Watch what this is going to do to foreign investments in the next few months. - Surprised |

This is so funny... 12/02/2008 18:27

Wonder why the ANC is doing this ?? Are you scared that all your ``dirt`` will be uncovered ! Very easy for you to sort the problem out ``JUST DISBANDEN THE BEST UNIT ``
WHAT A BLOODY JOKE !!!! Why don`t the ANC use the ESKOM MANAGEMENT TEAM TO LEAD THE NEW UNIT , THEY WILL KEEP US IN THE DARK AND IT WILL SUIT THE ANC !! - sean |

Enough already. 12/02/2008 18:37
We are already the laughing stock of the civilised (having a high state of culture and development both social and technological) world. I say let's pack up our Springbok, our Webb Ellis trophy, our values and morals, our ability to succeed and get the hell out of here. Before they realise we taste like chicken. By the way Maanda what the hell is your point - 'changes will always be there for better or worsening a situation."??? - WTF |

The last hope 12/02/2008 18:39
South Africa, at the tip of Africa, was for many in Africa a hope of a better living. Well, not anymore! That little light of hope is failing. (literarily and figuratively!)So, there goes the lights and here comes corruption---BIG time! - Martin Ungerer |

de Lille keep digging - Sarafina 2, Arms deal, Petrosa, Eskom, Scorpions, whats next..? 12/02/2008 18:46
The only consolation I have is that the EU and US will not allow their investments to go down the drain, a lot is at stake here. Mbeki is going down, its time for them to do anything and everything to ensure that he doesn't take their investments with him. The ANC govt went out of its way to invite foreign investors and encouraged them to expand their SA operations, the likes of Daimlerchrysler, BMW, VW etc heed the call and NOW THIS. I'm black, I voted ANC, I'm outraged and I'm disgusted. - Mayoli |

.....and what are you going to do about it? 12/02/2008 18:47
Moan, moan and moan..... we have 18 months to sideline the bunch as described in the above lines. Voters advise could look like: "the joint opposition parties advise you to come and vote on any party -even if you don't like them- except the ANC. For heaven's sake : do not waste your vote! - Benzo |

What is happening to our country? 12/02/2008 18:49
What a sad day for all South Africans! Why was it a mission of the ANC to get rid of the scorpions? South Africa is fast becoming a lawless environment. I just can't risk the lives of my wife and children anymore. I have to move them to a safer place where they can work and play without the fear of being raped and slaughtered as a result of hate. Thank God I have the opportunity of a UK "lifeboat". I leave this sinking ship with sorrow and 35 years of good memories. Goodbye my country. - Tears and Fears |

desbanding the scorpins 12/02/2008 19:06
We have heard nothing untoward of substance done by the scorpions, but only a call to have them disbanded or incorporated into the SAPS! Have the top Brass in Govt. forgotten the very purpose this unit was introduced into the system or is this a grudge from the recent and unavoidable ongoing matter(s)? It must be remembered that the govt. has to better serve it's subjects in the fight against crime and not to nurse the fears of those with the habit of keeping cans of worms, ect, ect! - Richie |
