HRC: Khoza must apologise
21/02/2008 21:25  - (SA)

  • K-word OK in townships - Khoza
  • Khoza slams sensational report
  • Johannesburg - The SA Human Rights Commission is to ask 2010 Local Organising Committee chairperson Irvin Khoza to apologise for uttering an offensive word.

Spokesperson Vincent Moaga said on Thursday the commission was drafting a letter to this effect to the soccer boss.

Khoza would be asked to formally and publicly apologise for using the word "kaffir" at a media conference.

The commission would give him time to respond to the letter.

Should Khoza fail to apologise, the commission would consider taking him to the Equality Court, said Moaga.

Khoza was speaking at a news conference on Monday after weekend reports that he and LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan were at odds.

"Stop thinking like a kaffir because you are contriving and misleading about something that is not there," Khoza told reporters at the event.

On Tuesday the SABC reported that Khoza said he had already apologised and that he had clarified his statement to other media.
