  • Johannesburg - Axed Congress of SA Trade Unions president Willie Madisha approached the Equality Court on Tuesday to appeal his dismissal, SABC news reported.

Madisha said he had been unfairly discriminated against and wanted to be reinstated as Cosatu's president.

He also wanted to be financially compensated for the alleged discrimination, the broadcaster said.

Madisha was dismissed over his alleged involvement in a scandal concerning a missing South African Communist Party (SACP) donation of R500 000.

A Cosatu-appointed commission into the matter found that the way in which he had handled the matter had damaged both his reputation and that of Cosatu.

On Tuesday, Cosatu spokesperson Patrick Craven said he was aware that Madisha intended to approach the court, but said the federation had an "iron clad" case against him.

"We can't comment on the details of the case. We will defend any action taken against us," said Craven.
