  • Johannesburg - SA Broadcasting Corporation commercial enterprises group executive Gabriel Mampone has been appointed as acting chief executive to replace the suspended Dali Mpofu, SABC news reported on Wednesday.

"We have appointed someone in the meantime," said SABC board chairperson Khanyisile Mkonza.

Mpofu was suspended on Wednesday for apparently failing to implement decisions of the board.

His suspension came a day after Mpofu suspended Snuki Zikalala, the group executive of news and current affairs.

On Wednesday, Mkonza said: "We have appointed someone to oversee the process, the running of the organisation in the meantime.

"We have decided as the board to appoint Mr Gabriel Mampone who is the head of commercial enterprises to act in the position of chief executive of the SABC."

She said everything would be carried out as expected.

"The meetings will happen. If there are events, the events will happen. Nothing will be set back by all of the developments".
