Johannesburg - Candidates aligned to ANC President Jacob Zuma were on Saturday elected to key positions at the party's Limpopo elective conference in the University of Venda.
The Zuma camp, led by former ANC Limpopo Province secretary Cassel Mathale, who was contesting against Premier Sello Moloto - a Mbeki man, in the race for the provincial Chairmanship, made a clean sweep of all the top five positions.
Mathale, who garnered 587 votes, was elected unanimously as new Chairperson, beating his rival Moloto who got 357 votes, by 234 votes.
Another Zuma supporter Dickson Namane Masemola, was elected to the position of Deputy Chairperson, defeating his rival Motalane Monakedi by 238 votes.
Other new top five office bearers included Joe Maswanganyi (secretary), Pinky Kekana (deputy secretary) and Dipuo Letsatsi (treasury) - all were Zuma supporters.
The election of the Zuma-aligned candidates was a culmination of a hostile nomination process characterised by violent acts.
The violent clashes, which claimed two lives, resulted in the disruption of meetings and the arrest of several ANC members during the build-up to the conference.
