Johannesburg - Leaders of the Afrikanerbond on Wednesday agreed to work with the government on name-changing in Gauteng, the provincial government said.
Spokesperson Simon Zwane said the Afrikanerbond had pledged its support during a meeting with Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile in Johannesburg.
"It was agreed that the process of name-changing had to be inclusive and reflect the history and heritage of all the people," said Zwane.
The Afrikanerbond had also agreed to help the government in fighting crime, improving education and accelerating service delivery.
"During the meeting, Mashatile said that the government will work together with [the Afrikanerbond] because it is concerned about the wellbeing of the people," said Zwane.
