Johannesburg - The cholera outbreak that began in December last year is under control, the Department of Health said on Tuesday.
"The number of cholera cases both confirmed and suspected so far seem to be confined largely to two of the country's nine provinces," said spokesperson Fidel Hadebe.
Limpopo still had the most cases of cholera followed by Gauteng.
Hadebe described reported instances of cholera in other provinces as "isolated" and said authorities were conducting tests to "determine the true patient situation".
He warned people to be vigilant in the coming months, urging members of the public to practise basic hygiene - such as washing hands after using toilets and washing of fruits and vegetables.
