Power probe in progress
14/02/2008 14:12 - (SA)
Pretoria - It was too early to start pointing fingers at who was to blame for the country's electricity crisis, Public Protector Lawrence Mushwana said on Thursday.
He said his office would make a decision on whether a full and further investigation was needed in due course.
"What is perhaps of critical importance at this stage is to make an informed assessment as to the adequacy of the steps being taken to deal with the problem - or at least alleviate the crucial consequences of load shedding - while permanent solutions are being sought."
He said his office had received detailed information from Eskom and was busy working through it.
"We will be watching with keen interest the implementation of all activities aimed at solving electricity problems and if anything untoward emerges, we will not hesitate to intervene," Mushwana said.
