Huge cut 'due to on-off policy' Substations 'waiting to blow' Power cuts cause blast in PE

Johannesburg - Eskom is in discussions with all the municipalities that have experienced fire blasts since power cuts began, the power utility said on Friday.

The Eskom media desk said it was working towards establishing the cause of the explosions.

Last Friday, power surges caused by electricity cuts resulted in an explosion at a Port Elizabeth substation.

The Nelson Mandela bay municipality said oil-based circuit breakers at the substation exploded, causing damage estimated at millions of rands.

On Tuesday a substation in Kempton Park caught fire after power cuts, leaving the town without electricity.
