U-turn on power cuts
23/05/2008 10:15 - (SA)
Johannesburg - After initially saying there might be a need for emergency load shedding on Thursday evening, power utility Eskom
said on Friday morning this had not become necessary after all.
Apparently technical problems had occurred at some power stations,
increasing the risk of the need for load shedding.
However, Eskom did an about-turn on Friday to say that they had assessed the power supply situation overnight and did not anticipate that it would be necessary to institute emergency load shedding today (Friday) either.
"As consumption patterns are typically lower over weekends, we anticipate that we will not implement emergency load shedding over the weekend," they added.
However, Eskom appealed to all consumers to continue using power wisely and to reduce consumption wherever possible.
