Power cuts to hit Benoni
24/05/2008 10:58 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Some areas in Benoni will be without electricity on Sunday due to maintenance work on two substations, Ekurhuleni municipality said on Friday.
Spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said affected areas would be Actonville, Tamboville, Wattville, Benoni South, Ext 9, 13, 12 and 15, Nestadt Industrial and Apex.
"Eskom has requested to carry out urgent work on the 132 000 volt overhead transmission lines between Nevis and Benoni 132kV substations from 1-6pm.
"Although no guarantee can be given that the set deadline will be met, work will, however, continue until the power is restored," Dlamini said.
He said a possibility existed that the affected areas could be accommodated from surrounding substations and in-feeds should the load permit.
"Traffic lights in the industrial area, Actonville and surrounding areas will be affected and therefore should be treated as four-way stop street intersections."
Dlamini said electrical networks and equipment should be regarded as live while work was being done.
