Shaik depressed - in hospital

  • Durban - Convicted Durban fraudster Schabir Shaik was on Monday admitted to a Durban hospital for hypertension and depression.

    A KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) health official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Shaik had been admitted to the Inkosi Albert Luthuli hospital.

    He said the KZN health department was expected to issue a statement shortly.

    He said the correctional services department had "requested us to manage their patient who is suffering from hypertension and depression".

    Shaik's brother Mo Shaik declined to talk to Sapa saying that he was in a meeting and referred all queries about his brother to the correctional services department.

    Correctional services spokesperson Manelisi Wolela could not immediately be reached for comment.
