Xenophobic hot spots quiet

A third man has been arrested for the killing of Siphiwe Madondo in May 2008, at the start of a wave of xenophobic attacks throughout the country.
Johannesburg - Police reported a quiet Monday night at xenophobic hot spots in South Africa after two weeks of violence that left 56 people dead.
Director Govindsamy Mariemuthoo said on Tuesday morning that he had not received any reports of violence during the night.
Western Cape and North West police did not have any incidents to report either.
On Monday, Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula said about 1 384 people were arrested in the violence that started in Alexandra, Johannesburg on May 12 and then spread to other provinces.
He revised the death toll to 56 and said more than 550 shops belonging to foreign nationals were either burnt down or looted in the unrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority and the justice ministry were in the process of figuring out how best to deal with the prosecution of those arrested, while neighbouring countries were dealing with an influx of refugees.
About 17 000 people were displaced in the violence.
