Johannesburg - Displaced foreigners in Gauteng are being reintegrated into their communities, a local government official said on Tuesday.
The Premier's spokesperson, Simon Zwane, said community leaders were working with municipalities to allow for reintegration into communities.
He said many Diepsloot residents who fled their homes during the attacks in the township returned there once the situation had quietened down.
In the Mohlakeng area about 60 people had been accommodated in a place of safety. Forty had since returned to the township.
Over 17 000 people were displaced in nationwide xenophobic attacks which left over 50 people dead. Many displaced foreigners opted to return to their home countries while others remained at police stations, community halls and churches.
Several institutions, including the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and national carrier South African Airways offered funding totalling more than R20m to victims of the violence.
The DBSA and the Industrial Development Corporation said they had set up a R20m fund to support humanitarian relief.
SAA chief executive Khaya Ngqula said the airline would donate some R750 000 to the Red Cross, which would be spent on food, blankets, clothes and medical aid.
Another R250 000 would be given to the Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg.
