Cape Town - Police arrested 14 foreigners on charges of intimidation at a shelter for victims of xenophobia at Youngsfield military base in Cape Town on Monday.
Superintendent André Traut said the 14 were intimidating the rest of the group of foreigners, telling them not to accept food from volunteer groups at the shelter.
"Police were called in and the matter was resolved with the arrest of 14 individuals," he said.
They were removed from the camp and faced charges of intimidation, although it was too soon to say whether these would indeed be brought against them.
In the meantime, they were being detained at Wynberg police station.
The 14 consisted of a Somali, a Democratic Republic of Congo national, 10 Burundians and two Rwandans. All were men, said Traut.
According to Cape Town disaster management, 1 522 foreign nationals are accommodated at Youngsfield.
