  • Johannesburg - A mob burned a Mozambican man alive on Saturday in Atteridgeville near Pretoria after accusing him of setting fire to a shack, police said.

The 30-year-old victim was stoned then burned, said Captain Thomas Mufamadi, who estimated the mob at about 300 people.

Police ruled out xenophobiam despite a wave of xenophobic attacks in South Africa just a month ago.

According to Talk Radio 702, police say calm has been restored

Three people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson William Baloyi told 702 says they are continuing to patrol the area.
