Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced the names of 25 players for the High Performance Programme (HPP) for 2007.
"Together with the national selection panel, we have chosen players who we believe have the potential to play international cricket successfully," said CSA's CEO, Gerald Majola.
"They will undergo intensive specialist coaching to take them to the next level and there will focus on mental toughness. We will also add to the squad should other players put their hands during the current season. Further players will be invited to join the specialist camps as in the past.
"We are aware that some of the players will be playing county cricket in our winter, but the HPP management will be monitoring their progress and slotting them into the local programme where appropriate.
"The composition of the squad is a graphic illustration that top class cricketers are emerging from all our communities.
"This augurs well for CSA's vision of making cricket a truly national sport of winners".
Vincent van der Bijl, General Manager of High Performance Cricket, said: "There will be a two-week camp at the CSA High Performance Centre in May that will consist of concentrated individual assessment and bedding down a specific path.
"The two week camp will focus on the specific cricket disciplines as well. The programme will include a five-day pre-tour camp will also be held in the first week of July, prior to the Emerging Players Tour taking place in Brisbane, Australia that will include New Zealand and India from July 16-28.
"In August there will also be another camp for a week that would be the precursor to high level three-day matches.
"This squad is a very strong one and the programme is geared to give them individual support and guidance in all aspects of building Test and ODI cricketers.
"The step up to international cricket is a big one and this programme is aimed at helping them to play a significant role for the Proteas.
