CSA: Strydom replaces Lorgat
07/08/2007 18:02 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday appointed national selector and former Free State captain, Joubert Strydom, as convener of selectors for one year.
Strydom will replace Haroon Lorgat as convener. Lorgat was not nominated by any of the CSA affiliates at last week's CSA (Pty) Ltd annual general meeting.
Two selectors remain, Mustapha Khan and national coach Mickey Arthur, with Shafiek Abrahams, the former Proteas spinner being the new selector.
Gerald Majola, CSA CEO, said: "The Board of Directors of CSA (Pty) Ltd has decided to appoint Joubert Strydom as convener for one year after which the appointment will be reviewed.
"Joubert is very experienced and has been part of the provincial and national selection system for several years now. He will give continuity."
Strydom said: "This is a great honour because I fill this post at a very exciting time for South African cricket.
"We have won the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia for the second successive year which means we are going to have a big pool of young talent to work with.
"The challenge is to find the right combination of promising and established players."
