Windies ready for SA A-team
17/12/2007 16:58 - (SA)
East London - Sunday's Twenty20 victory over South Africa in the rain-affected match played in Port Elizabeth was a real morale-booster for the West Indies touring team.
The result will have buoyed up their camp ahead of the four-day cricket match against a strong South Africa A side at Buffalo Park in East London starting on Wednesday.
However, the tourists must not take the SA A team lightly. The team is made up of some seasoned, experienced players, 10 of whom have represented South Africa in Test and ODIs - fast bowler Friedel de Wet being the odd man out.
The A team already have a good win under their belt, having beaten the touring New Zealand team by 85 runs in Potchefstroom last month.
In that match Neil McKenzie scored a magnificent 182 while De Wet, the spearhead of the South Africa A attack, captured nine wickets in the match (6-50 and 3-76).
McKenzie has taken over the captaincy from Boeta Dippenaar, who is unavailable for the match, while Lions' top-order batsman, Justin Ontong replaces the Free Stater.
The only other change from the team that beat the Kiwis sees Cape Cobras express bowler, Monde Zondeki replacing left-arm paceman, Lonwabo Tsotsobe of the Warriors, who is being rested at the request of Cricket SA.
Zondeki is the top wicket-taker in the SuperSport competition so far, boasting 44 wickets after seven matches (average 16.45), while he has taken five wickets in an innings on four occasions this season, and 10 wickets in a match once.
The umpires for the match have been announced. They are Ian Howell and Brian Jerling. The third umpire is Laurance Willemse of Border.
