Original Proteas team gets OK
11/02/2008 16:20 - (SA)
Johannesburg - After a week of wrangling, the Protea team to tour Bangladesh was announced by Cricket South Africa on Monday.
The team is the one originally presented to CSA president Norman Arendse for his approval last week. Arendse objected to the make-up of team on the grounds that it did not conform with CSA's transformation policy, which calls for seven players of colour in a squad of 15.
The 14-man squad includes just four black players. Herschelle Gibbs, who had a poor run of form in Test matches against New Zealand and the West Indies, has been dropped.
The squad includes two spinners, in Johan Botha and Paul Harris.
The players leave for Bangladesh on Wednesday for a tour that includes two Tests and three one-day internationals.
Proteas squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Ashwell Prince (vice-capt), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Neil McKenzie, Morne Morkel, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Dale Steyn
