Langeveldt on fire with ball
05/04/2008 22:05 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Cape Cobras paceman, Charl Langeveldt, is having a sensational time in the Standard Bank Pro20 Series, with three match winning performances yielding ten wickets, making him the top bowler of the series to date.
On Friday night he continued to impress with his bowling, snatching victory from the Warriors at Buffalo Park in East London, finishing with figures of 3/13 as the Cobras continued their unbeaten run, to lead the Pro20 log with 13 points from three games.
Langeveldt's Proteas team-mate and Warriors' off-spinner, Johan Botha, also shone with the ball, bagging 3/19 to increase his wicket tally for the series to nine.
It's not only the bowlers who are taking the honours, on the batting front, Loots Bosman of the Diamond Eagles who hit 47 against the Highveld Lions in Friday night's enthralling tie in Bloemfontein, is the series leading run-scorer with 205, at an amazing strike rate of 172.26.
The Eagles are one point behind the Cobras, but have played one game more than the Western Cape outfit.
Too early to predict
Four teams, first placed Cobras, Titans in third, Lions in fourth and the Dolphins who are occupying sixth, are at the half-way stage of the series, and the other three, Eagles in second place, Warriors in fifth and the seventh positioned, Zimbabwe, have already finished four games each. But at this stage, it is still too early to predict which teams will make the last four of the competition.
Sunday's matches see the Cape Cobras hosting the Lions at Boland Park in Paarl. The Lions will be buoyed by their effort in a tied match against the Eagles and the great form displayed by their opening batsman, Alviro Petersen.
With Langeveldt firing on all cylinders, it promises to be a cracking encounter.
At Kingsmead in Durban, the Dolphins will entertain the Warriors in a key match for both teams, as the loser could be out of the running for a place in the semi-finals.
